LOCHERLOUR.... a B-Listed redundant mill and associated steading buildings converted to three individual private homes. We worked with each client on all three projects to create houses tailored to their specific briefs.
Steading buildings can be, because of the nature of their original use, quite dark internally. The challenge in converting them to modern family homes is to bring more natural light inside.
The existing buildings were completely renovated and refurbished to their former glory and contemporary glassy extensions added to create more space, maximise natural light and connect with the outdoors. Rooflights also help to bring light into spaces which have limited window openings. By cladding the new additions in timber, old and new can be easily read. The understated and simple palette of materials and colours allow the buildings to sit comfortably in the setting.
Open plan interiors create a comfortable family feel and light, natural materials and internal finishes compliment the overall aesthetic.
