This, once lovely, old Victorian house took a year to restore to its former glory. As designers, we wanted to reconcile the old with the new. The task was to create a comfortable shooting lodge for international guests and to make the house work almost like a small hotel - to have a fine working kitchen capable of catering for large parties, to create easy spaces where guests could relax with a drink after a long day on the hill, to design a flexible informal drawing room/ library where guests could lounge in front of an open fire. The furniture is big, masculine, and solid: the 4m dining room table was specially made in Belgium; deep luxurious mattresses were brought up from Cornwall and the rest - a mixture of old and new with many bespoke items designed by us and made locally. The feel is 'Scottish country' but in an understated and un-showy way.
